It’s always cool when a celebrity takes some of their own loot and gives it to the less fortunate. But Shakira has outdone herself, donating a reported $40 million to rebuild disaster - stricken areas.
The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer is set to donate money from her Latin America for Solidarity Foundation that she co-founded with Gabriel Garcia Marquez. And there are two main areas that will be the beneficiaries of her generosity.
The money will be used to aid Peruvian earthquake victims, as well as hurricane suffering in Nicaragua. All it took was a first-hand look at the damage to rend the singer’s heart.
She told press, “I’ve seen first-hand many of the challenges facing Latin America. These are challenging problems that no one person can address, but working together everyone can help make a difference.”
